First plans and research. I have always loved Murikami’s work, so looking at his work as inspiration was not a hard choice to make. I found Lidberg’s work whilst looking for escapist based artist and really appreciated the look of his pieces.
Initial stage of contextual research, looking into dreams and nightmares as initially these were going to be the main inspiration to my illustrations.
After looking into dreams, nightmares and subsequent art i began looking into escapism. I found that this fit my style and after some research, it allowed to develop new ideas for illustrations where I had previously been stuck. Escapism and its many factors are inspiration behind most of the following illustrations.
Visual research into escapism art, creating a brainstorm. All images are from Pinterest, so are not my own, and the artists are unknown

Travel is a popular type of escapism, and trains are one method of that.
Process of creating the characters and the background, which is done by hand and has to be done in different steps and layers.
Based on a nightmare filled with giant mice, after my cat brought a live one into the kitchen and it couldn't be caught.
A personal escape, driving and listening to music or a podcast, which allows me to transport my mind to a different reality. Its also a physical escape and you end up in a new location.
Lino prints
First experimentation with Lino and my illustrations. I took the characters from my illustrations and cut them into prints to see what they could become other than a drawing.
I then took my prints into procreate. I tried them in different colours and then played with different affects which mimicked movement. These were successful but i decided i wanted to create a wallpaper type of print as well as of a singular character.

I cut out a few extra mushrooms of different shaped and sizes and the printed a repeated pattern. I was very happy with this result and i feel like this image could stand in its own rights or become wallpaper or clothes print.
I decided to create prints using other characters I have created as well, and made the similar type wallpaper/clothing prints, done in both black and white.
With these images, I first created the background on procreate which was then printed out. I printed the Lino over the to to combine the different media’s without editing the original image. These illustrations stand alone well in their own right, and wouldn’t work in the same fashion as the wallpaper type prints.
I took the wallpaper type prints into procreate and made them into animated gifs.
